Making nutritious food affordable: telling South Africans to eat healthier is not enough
Cheap, highly processed food is often more accessible than fresh, nutritious alternatives, leaving poorer households caught between food insecurity and a growing burden of obesity and poor nutrition. Rhiza Babuyile, a non-profit organisation which works with under-resourced communities through agriculture, skills development and enterprise, says the country cannot tackle the problem simply by telling people to make healthier choices.

History made in Eastern Cape traditional leadership elections
History was made in Bhisho this week when the Eastern Cape House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders (ECHTKL) elected its youngest-ever deputy chair and returned its chairmanship to the Matanzima dynasty after a nine-year hiatus. The election was triggered by the sudden death of chair Nkosi Mpumalanga Gwadiso on July 16, who had led the house since June 2022.

Houthis struck Riyadh airport 20 times in October, Saudi-led coalition says
Yemenâ s Houthi rebels have struck Riyadhâ s King Khalid international airport 20 times since the start of October. A spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition said the attacks involved 10 drones, four ballistic missiles, four cruise missiles and two unidentified projectiles.
